John T. Hodgson, ‘The Morning Ride Jock” known to most as “John T”, has been on WAVS 1170 am since July 1986, the longest running broadcaster on that radio station. John was born in Sawyers, Trelawny and attended the First Hill Primary School and William Knibb Memorial High School, in Trelawny. He joined the Jamaica Constabulary Force at age 18, and shortly received the rank of detective corporal. In 1984 John migrated to Florida, where he still resides.
John was the recipient of the 1996 and 1998 Reggae Soca Music awards, “Radio Personality of the year”, he was also nominated six additional times. John is proud to have in his archives interviews with such entertainers as international recording artistes, the Manhattans, Jerry Butler, Candy Staton, Marcia Griffiths, Papa San and The Fabulous Five. Also in his collection is an interview with former Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Professor Rex Nettleford, as well broadcasters Leonie Forbes, Fae Ellington and the late Charles Hyatt.
John’s most prized possessions are his children. In addition to his love of broadcast and music John is an avid cricket fan and player. He also enjoys dancing, reading and an occasional movie. His Christian faith keeps him grounded and you can worship with him any Sunday at the Covenant Life Family Center.
