Ron Burke “The Musical Messiah” started his career while he was a student at Tarrant School in Trelawny Jamaica. He was influenced by his godfather Felix Toyloy the man who had the first dancehall in southern Trelawny. Ron was also encouraged by the legendary Winston Merritone Blake and the astute Winston Barnes.
In the seventies you could catch Ron at the Hibiscus Lounge at the Pegasus New Kingston Hotel, club talk of the town, Caesars Palace, and Curphey’s Place. Appearances at these hot spots lead to the creation of his fan club at Immaculate Conception High School.
Ron migrated to the United States in the early eighties and lived in New York for a short while, before settling down in sunny South Florida. Ron brought to South Florida the real Jamaican club vibes at popular spots such as Studio 44, Headquarters, and Stinger Lounge.
In addition to being a club jock, Ron was the most popular Caribbean radio personality in South Florida in the 80’s through the 90’s. His exemplary radio career started at WDNA in 1981, the to WEDR 99 Jams on Sunday afternoons, then on WVCG doing the morning show which became so popular it was the first Caribbean show to register readings in the arbitron rating. In 1989 Ron joined the Hi Class team of WAVS 1170 AM where he rocked the airwaves as the number one jock for nine years.
In addition to his musical career Ron owns and operates Pines West Indian Products located in Pembroke Pines. Ron concentrates all of his energy and love on his only child Ashli Rae Burke.
Ron Burke is currently the program director and on air personality at mystic 1400 AM Radio.
